52nd National Assembly Opens

The 52nd National Assembly of Bulgaria convened on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. The inaugural session was officially opened by Rumen Milanov, a 78-year-old Member of Parliament representing Progressive Bulgaria, who was the oldest representative present. Addressing the gathered lawmakers, Milanov outlined two primary objectives for the new legislative body: reinforcing the rule of law and maintaining national peace.

Following his address, Milanov administered the oath to the 240 lawmakers. The oath requires each member to swear, “I do swear in the name of the Republic of Bulgaria that I will observe the Constitution and the laws of the land and will be guided in all my actions by the interests of the people. I have sworn to it.” The ceremony included the playing of the Bulgarian national anthem and the anthem of Europe within the assembly chamber.

During the performance of the Ode to Joy, the MPs from Vazrazhdane remained seated. After taking the oath, the MPs were required to sign the corresponding documents and submit them to the administration. The opening of the new national assembly marks the commencement of the legislative term for Bulgaria.
