The 52nd National Assembly convened for its inaugural session on Thursday, following the formation of six parliamentary groups after a coalition split. Progressive Bulgaria MP Mihaela Dotsova was elected as the National Assembly Chair, supported by her coalition partners, GERB-UDF and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF). The session began with the oath administration by Progressive Bulgaria MP Rumen Milanov.
During the proceedings, President Iliana Iotova addressed the members, emphasizing that a key function of the legislature must be the vote on the 2026 State budget, urging Bulgaria to assert a stronger voice within the European Union. Following the formal acknowledgments, various political blocs presented their priorities. Progressive Bulgaria highlighted the need to pass the State budget and address issues concerning the treasury and curbing speculation.
Meanwhile, opposition groups articulated their respective roles. Democratic Bulgaria affirmed its commitment to defending the rule of law and preserving Bulgaria’s European trajectory. MRF stated it would support policies promoting citizen rights, economic stability, and modernization.
Other factions outlined their positions: GERB-UDF declared its readiness to act as a constructive, center-right opposition, while Vazrazhdane indicated it would serve as the nation’s conscience. Throughout the day, representatives discussed the need to restore best practices in Bulgarian law
