Students from Sofia schools participated in “In the Footsteps of the Heroes,” a historical game organized by the Sofia Municipality. The event, held in Boris Garden Park to mark the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising, took place along the Prominent Bulgarians alley. The initiative aimed to provide students with an immersive educational experience related to Bulgarian history.
Divided into teams, the participating students navigated routes designed to guide them past monuments dedicated to national heroes. Throughout the activity, the teams were required to answer questions pertaining to Bulgaria’s historical period. Deputy Mayor Desislava Zhelyazkova, who oversees education and urban development, stated that the event serves to motivate students by allowing them to experience history beyond traditional classroom settings.
The game’s itinerary followed paths connecting significant figures, including revolutionaries such as Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, Zahari Stoyanov, Todor Kableshkov, and Georgi Benkovski. By successfully answering questions, the students collected pieces forming a symbolic map of the uprising. Upon completing the walk, each team composed a brief message addressed to the Bulgarian people, inspired by their learning journey.
The concept for this educational activity was developed in collaboration with history teacher Emil Jassim and is part of the Sofia Municipality’s broader cultural program. This initiative was implemented in partnership with Sofia’s Regional Education Directorate, successfully engaging students in tracing the footsteps of Bulgaria’s historical heroes.
