Students from Sofia schools participated in a historical simulation titled “In the Footsteps of the Heroes,” an event organized by the Sofia Municipality to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. The activity took place in Boris Garden Park, focusing on the Prominent Bulgarians alley. The initiative involved teams of students engaging in an educational scavenger hunt.
Participants followed designated routes that linked various monuments dedicated to national heroes, including Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, Zahari Stoyanov, Todor Kableshkov, and Georgi Benkovski. To complete the activity, the students had to answer questions concerning Bulgarian history while searching for these historical markers. Deputy Mayor Desislava Zhelyazkova, who oversees education and urban development, stated that the event aimed to connect the public with the memory of a significant historical act of courage.
The goal was to motivate students to experience history beyond traditional classroom learning. As the students progressed through the designated footsteps of the past, they collected segments of a symbolic map detailing the uprising. The game’s concept was developed with the assistance of history teacher Emil Jassim and is part of a broader cultural program managed by the Sofia Municipality in collaboration with the Sofia Regional Education Directorate.
Upon concluding the walk, each team composed a brief message to the Bulgarian people, inspired by the knowledge gained from the journey through the footsteps of past heroes.
