Minister Gurov Commemorates April Uprising Anniversary

Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov addressed the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising on Monday, stating that the measure of freedom has shifted from a question of capability to one of choice. Gurov reflected on the historical context, noting that 150 years prior, revolutionaries rose up to secure the right for all Bulgarians to choose, a right that, he observed, Bulgarians exercised recently. According to the minister, freedom is not a singular event but an ongoing commitment.

He emphasized the necessity of remaining vigilant, thinking critically, and speaking out when the defense of freedom is required. In a tribute to the heroes of the April Uprising, the Prime Minister utilized his Facebook platform to share a video recitation. This video featured a letter from the Bulgarian revolutionary and poet Hristo Botev, addressed to Ivan Grudov, Ivan Kavaldzhiev, and Georgi Stranski.

The statements from Gurov serve as a reflection on the enduring nature of civil liberties and the responsibility of citizens. By highlighting the historical significance of the April Uprising, the minister underscored the continuous need for civic awareness and active participation in safeguarding national freedoms.
