Students from Sofia schools participated in “In the Footsteps of the Heroes,” a historical game organized by the Sofia Municipality. The event was held in Boris Garden Park to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. The activity took place along the Prominent Bulgarians alley, where teams of students engaged in an interactive educational experience.
The core of the game involved the participants tracing routes that connected various monuments dedicated to national heroes. The students were tasked with answering questions concerning Bulgarian history while following the historical footsteps of revolutionary figures. The routes specifically linked memorials to prominent revolutionaries, including Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, Zahari Stoyanov, Todor Kableshkov, and Georgi Benkovski.
To complete the challenge, teams had to collect segments of a symbolic map detailing the uprising by successfully answering historical inquiries. Deputy Mayor Desislava Zhelyazkova, who oversees education and urban development, stated that the initiative aims to mark the 150-year anniversary of a significant act of national courage. She noted that the game provides students with an opportunity to connect with history beyond the traditional classroom setting.
The concept was developed with the collaboration of history teacher Emil Jassim and is part of the Sofia Municipality’s cultural program, executed in partnership with Sofia’s Regional Education Directorate. Upon completing the educational walk, each participating team composed a short message to the Bulgarian people, drawing inspiration from the historical knowledge they acquired.
