A replica of the Giro d’Italia trophy is currently being fabricated in Plovdiv to mark the third stage of the cycling race. According to Plovdiv 2019 Foundation Executive Director Kiril Velchev, the steel installation will be situated at the roundabout on Maritsa-Yug Blvd, near the Water Palace, directly along the tour route. The creation of the replica, which stands approximately three metres high, is being handled by artists Nedyalka Mitkova and Dimitar Mitkov.
The family noted that the task was challenging due to the original cup’s highly complex and recognizable design. Known as the “Trofeo Senza Fine,” the trophy features a unique spiral ribbon structure that narrows in the middle, resembling an hourglass. The team opted for stainless steel to ensure the installation’s durability against weather and time.
This material allows for the recreation of the polished effect seen inside the original trophy, while a delicate shine has been added to the exterior. Once finished, the entire structure will be toned to match the original bronze color. The total height of the installation is 4.5 metres, inclusive of a metal pedestal that will be engraved with the year the Giro passed through the city and the Plovdiv logo.
The structure is estimated to weigh about 1.5 tonnes, and base spotlights will be installed for nighttime illumination. In related coverage, BTA has established a new section dedicated to the Giro d’Italia 2026 in Bulgaria. This coverage details the three stages scheduled to pass through the country from May 8 to May 10, 2026.
