A three-metre replica of the Giro d’Italia trophy is being fabricated in Plovdiv for the third stage of the cycling race. According to Plovdiv 2019 Foundation Executive Director Kiril Velchev, the steel installation will be situated at the roundabout on Maritsa-Yug Boulevard, near the Water Palace, along the cycling tour’s route. The replica is being produced by the artist company Nedyalka Mitkova and Dimitar Mitkov.
The family noted that the complexity and distinctiveness of the original trophy presented a significant challenge. Known as the “Trofeo Senza Fine” (Endless Trophy), the original design features a spiral ribbon that ascends, narrowing in the middle, creating an hourglass appearance. Nedyalka Mitkova stated that creating the trophy was a significant honor and responsibility.
The team selected stainless steel for the installation to ensure durability against weather and time. This material also facilitates the polished effect seen within the original trophy, while a delicate, shiny edge has been replicated on the exterior. Upon completion, the entire cup will be treated to achieve its original bronze color.
The total height of the structure will reach 4.5 metres, incorporating a metal pedestal engraved with the year the Giro passed through the city and the Plovdiv logo. The structure is estimated to weigh approximately 1.5 tonnes, and spotlights will be installed at the base for nighttime illumination. BTA has also launched a dedicated section titled “Giro d’Italia 2026 – Cycling in Bulgaria,” detailing Bulgaria’s hosting of three stages of the race from May 8 to 10, 2026.
