Crafts Three-Metre Replica of Giro d’Italia Trophy for Third Stage of Race

A replica of the Giro d’Italia trophy, measuring approximately three metres in height, is being constructed in Plovdiv for the third stage of the cycling race. According to Plovdiv 2019 Foundation Executive Director Kiril Velchev, the steel installation will be positioned at the roundabout on Maritsa-Yug Blvd, near the Water Palace, along the designated route. The construction of the replica is being undertaken by the artist company Nedyalka Mitkova and Dimitar Mitkov.

The family noted the complexity of the original cup, known as the “Trofeo Senza Fine” (Endless Trophy), which features a distinctive, hourglass-like spiral ribbon design. The team selected stainless steel for the material to ensure the installation’s durability against weather and time. This material choice also facilitated the recreation of the polished internal effect visible in the original trophy, while a delicate sheen was added to the exterior.

Upon completion, the structure will be treated to resemble its original bronze coloration. The total height of the final installation will reach 4.5 metres, including a metal pedestal that will be engraved with the year the Giro passed through the city and the Plovdiv logo. The entire structure is estimated to weigh around 1.5 tonnes, and spotlights will be integrated into the base to illuminate the trophy at night.

In related coverage, BTA has launched a dedicated section, “Giro d’Italia 2026 – Cycling in Bulgaria.” This section covers Bulgaria’s hosting of three stages of the race, which are scheduled to take place from May 8 to 10, 2026.
