More Measles Cases Reported, Bringing Total to 165

Six new instances of measles have been reported in Bulgaria, bringing the cumulative total of confirmed cases to 165 as of April 23, according to data released by the Ministry of Health. The recent cluster of cases was distributed across several regions: Vratsa reported two new cases, Lovech reported two, while Pleven and Sofia each registered one additional case. In response to the ongoing public health concern, authorities have initiated emergency immunization measures for all children who have not received adequate vaccination coverage.

This heightened vigilance follows the confirmation of the first eight measles cases in the Vratsa region on March 19. Addressing the situation, Iliya Tasev, Director of the Public Health Protection, Health Control and Patients’ Rights Directorate at the Ministry of Health, reported on the vaccination efforts. He stated that since early March, 20,000 children have received vaccinations covering measles, mumps, and rubella.

These ongoing measures underscore the national commitment to maintaining community health standards against vaccine-preventable diseases. The Ministry continues to monitor the spread of measles and advises the public to adhere to recommended immunization schedules to control the incidence of further cases.
