As of April 23, the total number of reported measles cases in Bulgaria reached 165, according to data released by the Ministry of Health. The country has registered six additional measles cases recently. These new infections were reported across several regions: two cases were identified in Vratsa, two in Lovech, and one each in Pleven and Sofia.
In response to the ongoing spread, public health officials have intensified vaccination efforts. Iliya Tasev, Director of the Public Health Protection, Health Control and Patients’ Rights Directorate at the Ministry of Health, reported that 20,000 children have received vaccinations against measles, mumps, and rubella since the beginning of March. The initial cluster of measles cases was first confirmed by the Ministry on March 19, originating in the Vratsa region.
Following this initial surge, authorities promptly implemented an emergency immunization protocol targeting all children who had not been vaccinated. The continued monitoring of these cases underscores the ongoing commitment to public health safety. Health officials continue to urge vaccination compliance to control the spread of measles and protect community health.
The sustained effort involves tracking all reported cases and ensuring comprehensive immunization coverage across the nation.
