More Measles Cases Reported, Bringing Total to 165

The number of confirmed measles cases in Bulgaria has risen, with six additional instances registered, bringing the cumulative total to 165 as of April 23, according to data published by the Ministry of Health. These recent reports detailed new cases across several regions: two in Vratsa, two in Lovech, and one each in Pleven and Sofia. The outbreak tracking began with the confirmation of the first eight measles cases by the Ministry of Health on March 19, all initially located in the Vratsa region.

In response to the rising incidence, health authorities promptly mandated emergency immunization protocols for all children who had not received the necessary vaccinations. In efforts to mitigate the spread and safeguard public health, vaccination efforts have been significantly ramped up. As of Wednesday, officials reported that 20,000 children had received vaccination against measles, mumps, and rubella since early March.

These measures underscore the ongoing commitment of the health sector to control the spread of infectious diseases. The public health response remains focused on immunization and surveillance. The continued monitoring of measles cases and the proactive vaccination drives are critical components of the national health strategy aimed at preventing further outbreaks.

Authorities continue to advise the public to adhere to recommended immunization schedules to maintain community immunity and protect vulnerable populations.
