Bulgarian businessman Atanas Bostandjiev has assumed ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, taking over from the outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov, as announced on Friday. While Bostandjiev now holds the controlling stake in the club, Sirakov will retain the role of club president. Sirakov stated his decision to step down from shareholding after stabilizing the club during a challenging period, emphasizing that his continued presidency is vital for maintaining leadership continuity.
Bostandjiev expressed his commitment to preserving the identity and independence of Levski while aiming for sustainable success both on the pitch and in the club’s operational aspects. He welcomed Sirakov’s continued role as president. A central pillar of the club’s future strategy is the planned new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium.
Levski and the architectural firm IPA have unveiled the concept, with an estimated total investment of EUR 120 million. The stadium is designed to accommodate 24,718 spectators under Bulgarian Football Union regulations and 23,032 under UEFA standards. Construction is slated to commence in Spring 2027.
Beyond seating, the facility will function as a multifunctional complex, capable of hosting large events, including concerts for up to 40,000 people, alongside improved public park areas. Atanas Bostandjiev, founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, established in 2014, specializes in emerging markets. His professional background includes roles as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and a partner at Goldman Sachs in London, where he co-headed the emerging markets business across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
