Bulgarian businessman Atanas Bostandjiev has assumed ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, taking over from the club’s outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov, as announced on Friday. While Bostandjiev assumes the ownership role, Sirakov will retain the position of club president. Sirakov stated his departure from shareholding was a strategic step after stabilizing the club during a difficult period, ensuring its continued existence and safeguarding its identity.
He emphasized that maintaining leadership continuity is crucial for the future of Levski. Bostandjiev stated that his primary objectives are to maintain Levski’s identity and independence while achieving sustainable success both athletically and operationally. He expressed satisfaction that Sirakov will remain in the presidency.
A cornerstone of the club’s future strategy involves the development of a new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium. Levski and the architectural and engineering firm IPA have unveiled the concept, with an estimated total investment of EUR 120 million. The proposed stadium will accommodate 24,718 spectators according to Bulgarian Football Union standards and 23,032 under UEFA guidelines.
Construction is scheduled to commence in the spring of 2027. The facility is designed as a multifunctional complex, capable of hosting major events, including concerts for up to 40,000 people, alongside enhanced park areas and public spaces. Atanas Bostandjiev is the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, established in 2014, which focuses on emerging markets.
His professional background includes serving as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and a partner at Goldman Sachs in London, where he co-headed the emerging markets business across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
