Bostandjiev Becomes New PFC Levski Sofia Owner

Bulgarian businessman Atanas Bostandjiev has acquired majority ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, as announced by the club’s outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov, on Friday. While Bostandjiev assumes ownership, Sirakov will retain the role of club president. Sirakov stated his decision to divest shares followed a period of stabilizing the club, ensuring its continued existence and preserving its identity.

He emphasized that leadership continuity is vital for Levski’s future. Bostandjiev stated his objective is to maintain the club’s identity and independence while achieving sustainable success both on the pitch and in its operational aspects. He expressed satisfaction that Sirakov will remain in the presidency.

A cornerstone of Levski’s future strategy is the proposed new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium. Levski and the architectural firm IPA have unveiled the concept, projecting a total investment of EUR 120 million. The stadium is designed to accommodate 24,718 spectators under Bulgarian Football Union regulations and 23,032 under UEFA standards.

Construction is slated to commence in spring 2027. Beyond its sporting function, the facility will serve as a multifunctional complex, capable of hosting large events, including concerts for up to 40,000 people, alongside enhanced park areas. Atanas Bostandjiev is the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, established in 2014, which focuses on emerging markets.

His professional background includes roles as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and a partner at Goldman Sachs in London. Previously, he began his career at Merrill Lynch in Frankfurt in 1998.
