-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Launched in Sofia

The Bulgarian-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) was officially launched on Friday during a ceremony held at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). Attendees included the Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, Anton Kostadinov, the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria, Agneza Rusi-Popovska, local government representatives from Southwestern Bulgaria, and business leaders from both nations. Atanas Radev will chair the new bilateral chamber.

In his address, Radev emphasized building connections between the two neighboring countries. Kostadinov stated that the economic partnership between Bulgaria and North Macedonia is largely established despite recent challenges. He stressed that deepening economic ties and cooperation across various sectors are primary goals.

Kostadinov noted that the current trade turnover of EUR 1.3 billion is insufficient given the potential of the relationship. He identified energy, construction, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and agriculture as key sectors for enhanced dialogue between the commerce organizations. Ambassador Rusi-Popovska, who initiated the chamber, described the launch as a positive step for unlocking trade potential.

She highlighted Bulgaria’s importance to North Macedonia, not only as a market but also as an EU gateway, linking economic growth to North Macedonia’s European integration. She urged boosting investment and improving infrastructure in sectors like energy, manufacturing, transport, and digital services. Ivan Todorov, Vice President of the BCCI, echoed the need for better connectivity across road, rail, and air links.

The BMCCI immediately hosted its first Bulgarian–Macedonian Business Forum, intended to generate joint ventures and cooperation projects. The chamber plans to host such forums annually in both countries, solidifying the role of industry and commerce cooperation.
