According to the Customs Agency, the discovery occurred on Friday, involving nearly 363 kg of marijuana. At judicial valuation, the seized substance was estimated to be worth approximately EUR 3 million.

The incident took place when the lorry, bearing Romanian registration, arrived at the Lesovo border crossing on the outbound lane from Romania. The driver, identified as a Turkish national, presented documentation asserting that the cargo consisted solely of washing machines in transit from Romania to Turkey via Bulgaria, and he declared no other items. During a comprehensive customs inspection, officers discovered 25 boxes situated atop the declared washing machines.

These boxes contained a total of 338 vacuum-sealed packages filled with a dry, green leafy substance. Subsequent field drug tests confirmed that the material in these packages was marijuana. The total weight of the seized marijuana was recorded as 362 kg gross weight.

The driver has been detained, and pre-trial proceedings have commenced regarding the case. The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Yambol is scheduled to file a request with the court seeking the imposition of a remand measure of detention in custody.
