The Bulgarian Defence Ministry announced that servicemen and military equipment belonging to Land Forces units will undergo transportation across the nation’s infrastructure from April 28 to April 30, 2026. This movement follows the completion of scheduled military exercises. On April 28 and 29, personnel and materiel returning from the tactical drill known as Defensive Shield 26, conducted by the 5th Brigade Command, are scheduled for transit.
The movement will originate from the Koren Training Area in Southern Bulgaria, proceeding to the cities of Pleven, Shumen, and Sliven utilizing both road and rail infrastructure. The final day of movement, April 30, will see military convoys traveling along the national road network. These units, comprising personnel and necessary equipment, will depart from the Novo Selo Training Area located in Southeastern Bulgaria, concluding their field training exercises.
Throughout these transfers, the movement of military forces will be secured by escorts provided by the Military Police Service. The planned logistical movements confirm the use of Bulgaria’s comprehensive transportation grid. The deployment relies heavily on the established road network for overland passage, supplemented by the rail system for efficient movement of larger quantities of materiel.
The exercises are part of the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to maintaining operational readiness across all military units.
