CEO Vijay Joshi: India Can Take Inspiration From How BTA Popularizes Bulgarian Culture

Vijay Joshi, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of India’s national news agency Press Trust of India (PTI), suggested that India could draw inspiration from the methods used by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) to promote and preserve local culture. This statement was made during the launch of BTA’s initiative, “Pencho Slaveykov Today,” held at the Slaveykov House Museum in Tryavna. The initiative commemorates the 160th birth anniversary of Pencho Slaveykov, a significant figure in Bulgarian modernism.

Joshi expressed hope that the collaboration between the national news agencies of India and Bulgaria would help increase awareness of Slaveykov within India. He noted that such cultural preservation events are highly valuable. During his visit, which was Joshi’s second in Bulgaria, he visited the Slaveykov House Museum, where the discussion was moderated by literary scholar Yordan Eftimov.

Following the museum event, Joshi, along with BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Tryavna Mayor Dencho Minev, toured the Daskalov House and the Museum of Asian and African Art. PTI and BTA maintain a formal partnership agreement facilitating the exchange of news content. Furthermore, the agencies collaborate through MINDS International, an association comprising 25 leading global news organizations, including Reuters and Associated Press.

The visit followed Joshi’s participation in the MINDS conference in Vienna with BTA representatives. His travels also included visits to BTA’s national press clubs in Belgrade and Skopje, underscoring the ongoing cooperative relationship between the two news agencies and strengthening cultural ties between India and Bulgaria.
