Vijay Joshi, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of India’s national news agency Press Trust of India (PTI), observed that the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) models a valuable approach to cultural preservation through its collaboration with local communities. Joshi made these remarks while attending the launch of BTA’s initiative, “Pencho Slaveykov Today,” held at the Slaveykov House Museum in Tryavna. The initiative commemorates the 160th birth anniversary of Pencho Slaveykov, a significant figure in Bulgarian modernism.
Joshi expressed optimism that the partnership between the national news agencies of India and Bulgaria would help raise awareness of Slaveykov within India. He noted that such cultural events are effective mechanisms for preserving a nation’s heritage. This visit marked Joshi’s second trip to Bulgaria.
Following the discussion at the museum, which was moderated by literary scholar Yordan Eftimov, Joshi, along with BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Tryavna Mayor Dencho Minev, toured local landmarks, including the Daskalov House and the Museum of Asian and African Art. The professional ties between PTI and BTA are formalized through a partnership agreement facilitating news exchange. Furthermore, the agencies collaborate within MINDS International, an association comprising 25 global news agencies, including Reuters and Associated Press, focusing on joint information services.
This recent engagement follows participation by Valchev and Joshi in the MINDS conference in Vienna, after which Joshi visited Bulgaria, also stopping at BTA’s national press clubs in Belgrade and Skopje.
