Cultural Centre in Skopje to Host Exhibition Marking 150th Anniversary of April Uprising

The St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library and the State Archives Agency are presenting the exhibition, “For the Freedom of a Nation,” which opens at the Bulgarian Cultural and Information Centre in Skopje on Tuesday.

This display commemorates the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. The exhibition features a collection exceeding 130 historical documents, encompassing protocols, letters, telegrams, appeals, and certificates. These materials provide a comprehensive look at the preparation, progression, suppression, and lasting consequences of the April Uprising.

Furthermore, the documentation illuminates the international response to the revolt, while included Ottoman records offer insight into the viewpoints held by both local and central Ottoman authorities of the time. The artifacts are authored by significant historical figures, including Hristo Botev, Vasil Levski, Lyuben Karavelov, and Stefan Stambolov. The display is notable for presenting both widely known and previously unrevealed documents.
