The 52nd National Assembly of Bulgaria commenced its session on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. The opening of the inaugural sitting was conducted by Rumen Milanov, a 78-year-old Member of Parliament representing Progressive Bulgaria, who was the oldest representative present. Addressing the legislative body, Milanov outlined two primary objectives for the assembly: reinforcing the rule of law and maintaining domestic peace.
Following the opening remarks, Milanov administered the oath to the 240 lawmakers. The oath requires members to swear, “I do swear in the name of the Republic of Bulgaria that I will observe the Constitution and the laws of the land and will be guided in all my actions by the interests of the people. I have sworn to it.” After the administration of the oath, the national anthem of Bulgaria and the anthem of Europe were played within the debating chamber.
During the playing of the Ode to Joy, members of the Vazrazhdane group remained seated. Following the ceremony, all MPs were required to sign the oath documentation and submit it to the assembly administration. The opening of this new national assembly marks the beginning of the legislative session for Bulgaria.
