Folklore Club from Northern Ireland to Perform Collaboration With Detelini Folklore Ensemble from Athens

The Chemshir Bulgarian Folklore Club, based in Armagh, northern Ireland, will participate in a collaborative performance at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. This event, scheduled for Munich from May 15 to 17, will feature a joint performance with the Detelini Dance Folklore Ensemble from Athens. The performance is set to showcase dancers representing several nations, including Greece, northern Ireland, Cyprus, and the USA.

According to Plamena Chemshirova, the dance group leader, the collaboration is significant as a representation of the global connection of Bulgarian dancers. The group plans to present a Thracian dance originating from the Pazardzhik Region. Chemshirova explained that the choreography narrates themes of young love, the strength of friendship, and the cultural significance of the Bulgarian horo, which she described as a connection to love.

The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival is dedicated to amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria. The initiative was initially established by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted both the inaugural event in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. Organizers anticipate attendance from over 100 dance ensembles and more than 4,000 guests at the 11th Munich edition in May.

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event and will feature all participating groups.
