Folk Dance Troupe from Hamburg Prepares for Travelling Festival in Munich

The RitmiKKa folk dance troupe from Hamburg, Germany, is set to participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival, scheduled to take place in Munich from May 15 to 17. According to Kamen Kunev, the troupe’s headmaster and choreographer, the performance will feature a dance piece created approximately 60 years ago by choreographer Zahari Andreev. Kunev emphasized the importance of staging this work, stating that the leadership feels a duty to ensure that the contributions of late performing arts legends are preserved.

He noted that the choreography embodies the spirit of a village square, recalling evenings when people would gather around a fire with music, songs, and communal dance. Kunev stated that participating in the festival aims to demonstrate that unity through dance persists, regardless of geographical location. The group’s preparation for the event involved an entire season of rehearsals, focusing on perfecting every detail.

Furthermore, the troupe will debut in brand new costumes, which were custom-sewn for the festival by designer Nikolay Kolev. The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival is dedicated to amateur folk ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria. The initiative was launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, and has seen previous successful editions.

The 11th iteration in Munich anticipates the participation of over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event.
