The RitmiKKa folk dance troupe from Hamburg, Germany, is scheduled to participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival, which will take place in Munich from May 15 to 17. Kamen Kunev, the headmaster and choreographer of the troupe, stated that the group will present a specific dance piece created approximately 60 years ago by choreographer Zahari Andreev. Kunev emphasized that selecting this choreography reflects a commitment to preserving the work of influential figures in the performing arts.
He noted that such traditional dances remain vital and require ongoing support. According to Kunev, the dance embodies the communal spirit of a village square, reminiscent of evenings when people gathered around a fire for music, songs, and dance after working in the fields. He stated that the purpose of participating in the festival is to demonstrate that the community remains united through dance, regardless of geographical location.
In preparation for the event, the troupe will debut in brand new costumes, designed by fashion designer Nikolay Kolev. Kunev reported that the choreography required an entire season of intensive rehearsals to perfect every detail. The Expats Join Hands festival is organized for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria.
The initiative was first launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France. For the 11th edition in Munich, organizers anticipate participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is serving as the official media partner for the event.
