Folk Dance Troupe from Hamburg Prepares for Travelling Festival in Munich

The RitmiKKa folk dance troupe from Hamburg, Germany, is scheduled to perform at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival in Munich, Germany, from May 15 to 17. Kamen Kunev, the troupe’s headmaster and choreographer, stated that the performance will feature a dance piece originally created approximately 60 years ago by choreographer Zahari Andreev. Kunev explained that the selection of this specific dance is driven by a desire to keep the work of past performing arts legends alive.

He emphasized that such cultural expressions remain vibrant and require support. According to Kunev, the dance symbolizes the communal spirit of a village square, evoking memories of evenings when people would gather around a village fire for music, songs, and dance after working in the fields. He noted that participating in the festival aims to demonstrate that a sense of unity through dance persists, regardless of geographical location, asserting that the spirit of Bulgaria travels with its people.

The troupe will debut in brand-new costumes designed specifically for the festival by fashion designer Nikolay Kolev. Preparations for the performance involved an entire season of intensive rehearsals, with every detail being practiced repeatedly. The festival, organized for amateur folk ensembles outside of Bulgaria, was initiated by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted the first edition in 2015 and the tenth in 2025.

The 11th edition in Munich anticipates participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event.
