A multimedia language classroom for studying Bulgarian is scheduled to open on May 2 in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, according to Svetoslav Ivanov, the Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa. Ivanov stated that this project is part of a broader initiative supporting Bulgarian communities across several nations, including Ukraine. The support was approved under a specific Council of Ministers Decree and a program aimed at bolstering Bulgarian cultural organizations.
The project was submitted by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie. Its primary objective is to preserve and advance Bulgarian culture and linguistic identity by employing modern teaching methodologies. The initiative aims to motivate students of Bulgarian origin to acquire knowledge and maintain a connection to their ancestral homeland.
Ivanov noted that the support is particularly vital as the school operates within a mixed-population area. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche, established in 2014, has since expanded its reach, opening branches in Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and Novoselivka. Beyond formal instruction, the school offers a wide array of extracurricular activities, including workshops focused on folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theater, and applied arts.
Currently, the institution serves 341 students in extracurricular activities, supported by 45 teachers. The school is a member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad. The opening of this updated multimedia classroom underscores the ongoing commitment to preserving the Bulgarian language and cultural heritage through modern educational tools.
