Language Classroom Will Open at Bulgarian Sunday School in Tatarbunary

A multimedia language classroom dedicated to studying Bulgarian will open at the Balgarche Bulgarian Sunday School in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, with support from Bulgaria. Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa, announced the opening, noting that the project aligns with a Council of Ministers Decree and a broader program supporting Bulgarian communities across several nations, including Ukraine. The initiative was proposed by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, which operates the school.

The primary objective of the new facility is to preserve and advance Bulgarian culture, specifically strengthening linguistic identity. By integrating modern teaching tools, the classroom aims to motivate students of Bulgarian descent to acquire knowledge and maintain cultural ties with their ancestral homeland. Consul General Ivanov emphasized the importance of this support, particularly as the school operates within a mixed-population area.

The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche was first established in 2014. Since then, the institution has expanded, opening additional branches in Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and Novoselivka. Beyond language instruction, the school offers comprehensive extracurricular activities, including folk dance, traditional music, singing, theater, and applied folk arts.

Currently, the school supports 341 students across its branches, taught by 45 educators. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche is affiliated with the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad, underscoring its commitment to cultural continuity and education.
