A multimedia language classroom dedicated to studying Bulgarian will open on May 2 in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, at the Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche, according to Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa. Ivanov stated that this project aligns with Council of Ministers Decree No. 224 of October 30, 2025, and the broader Programme for Supporting Organizations of Bulgarian Communities in several countries, including Ukraine.
The initiative resulted from the approval of eight project proposals, supported by the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Odesa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The proposal was submitted by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, which operates the school. The primary goal of the project is to preserve and advance Bulgarian culture, including linguistic identity, by incorporating modern teaching tools that meet contemporary educational standards.
Furthermore, the program aims to encourage students of Bulgarian origin to acquire knowledge and maintain their historical connection with Bulgaria. Ivanov noted that this support is particularly vital because the Bulgarian Sunday School operates within a mixed-population area. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche was established in 2014.
Since the 2016–2017 academic year, the school expanded by opening branches in Tatarbunary and Kiliia, as well as in the village of Novoselivka. In addition to language instruction, the school offers workshops in folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theatrical folk art, and applied folk arts. Currently, 341 students participate in extracurricular activities, supported by 45 teachers.
The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche is affiliated with the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad.
