Director General: By Organizing Talks about April Uprising, BTA Took Step towards People

Speaking at a conference concerning the April Uprising, Milen Mitev, the Director General of Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), stated that BTA’s organization of discussions on the event was crucial. He emphasized that media outlets must proactively connect with their audience to remain maximally useful in the current environment. Mitev noted that the conference, which concluded a series organized by BTA commemorating the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising, highlighted the necessity of understanding both international contexts and national history to properly assess the present.

He argued that this historical understanding allows individuals to realize the path traveled and the achievements made. The Director General stressed the critical role of the media in shaping public opinion. According to Mitev, the participants of the April Uprising exemplified foundational elements like unwavering hope, commitment, and a willingness to make sacrifices for a cause.

He positioned the Uprising as a seminal moment in Bulgarian history, a key development leading to the establishment of an independent Bulgarian state. Furthermore, Mitev cautioned that national pride requires responsible cultivation. He argued that national sentiment is frequently manipulated for various purposes.

Therefore, he asserted that it is the responsibility of scholars and the media to build national self-esteem—a pride rooted in acknowledging historical achievements—while simultaneously working toward continuous improvement.
