-Day Marking of April Uprising Launched in Panagyurishte with 150 Greetings from Around the World Initiative

Three-day commemorations marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising commenced on Thursday at the Memorial House Theatre in Panagyurishte with the “150 Greetings from Around the World” initiative. This event featured video messages from children and youth spanning the globe. Following the greetings, a theatrical performance was presented, adapted from Stefan Tsanev’s work, Children of the World.

During his speech, Panagyurishte Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov acknowledged the attendees for their commitment to preserving historical memory. He stated that the collective participation demonstrated a connection to something larger than themselves: Bulgaria. Notable attendees included BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) Director General Milen Mitev, Prof.

Georgi Valchev, Rector of the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, and journalist and Panorama talk-show presenter Boyko Vassilev. Earlier in the day, participants attended a conference organized by BTA and hosted by the Panagyurishte History Museum, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. The celebrations in Panagyurishte are ongoing, with a planned 150th Flamesshow scheduled for the 20 April Square.

The global participation seen in the “Greetings from Around the World” initiative underscored the international significance of the events in Panagyurishte.
