-Day Marking of April Uprising Launched in Panagyurishte with 150 Greetings from Around the World Initiative

Three days of commemorations marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising commenced in Panagyurishte on Thursday. The opening events at the Memorial House Theatre featured the “150 Greetings from Around the World” initiative, which showcased video messages contributed by children and youth from various global locations. Following this, a theatrical performance was staged, adapted from Stefan Tsanev’s work, Children of the World.

During his address, Panagyurishte Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov expressed gratitude to attendees for their commitment to preserving historical memory. He noted that such participation demonstrates a connection to a collective identity larger than the individual, citing Bulgaria as an example. Dignitaries in attendance included BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Bulgarian National Radio Director General Milen Mitev, Professor Georgi Valchev, Rector of the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, and journalist Boyko Vassilev, known for his work on Bulgarian National Television.

Earlier that day, participants attended a conference dedicated to the 150th anniversary, an event organized by BTA and hosted by the Panagyurishte History Museum. The commemorative activities are ongoing, with the celebrations scheduled to continue through a 150 Flamesshow at the 20 April Square in Panagyurishte. The events highlight the enduring significance of the uprising to the local community and the broader national narrative.
