, Air Defence Missile Engine Wash Ashore in Sunny Beach Resort Area, Transported to Navy Base in Burgas

Personnel from the Burgas Naval Base conducted operations this week involving the recovery of military equipment from the coastal area near the Sunny Beach resort. According to the Ministry of Defence, the teams retrieved an air defence missile engine and an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) from the beach. On April 22, a specialized unit from the naval base identified and secured an object on the resort’s beach.

Servicemen determined this item to be the booster stage of an air defence missile, which was subsequently transported to the facility after confirming it posed no immediate threat. Later, on Wednesday, a different operation was launched after the Regional Directorate of the Border Police reported sighting a drone at sea. A specialized team surveyed an area located approximately 150–200 meters northeast of Nessebar.

The search continued into Thursday morning with the assistance of a Bulgarian Navy boat. The crew successfully located and identified the drone; it was noted to be missing its nose section and contained no explosive components. Like the missile debris, the drone was assessed by military personnel as posing no danger and was transported back to the Burgas Naval Base.

These actions were carried out by Navy personnel following requests from the Burgas Regional Administration, executed pursuant to directives from the Chief of Defence and the Navy Commander. The recoveries underscore the ongoing monitoring efforts by the military in the region.
