, Air Defence Missile Engine Wash Ashore in Sunny Beach Resort Area, Transported to Navy Base in Burgas

Teams operating from the Burgas Naval Base conducted recovery operations involving recovered military equipment on the Bulgarian coast. The Ministry of Defence reported that personnel discovered an air defence missile engine and an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) washed ashore near the Sunny Beach resort. Both items were assessed as posing no threat and were subsequently transported to the naval base.

The activity began with an incident on April 22, when a specialized unit from the Burgas Naval Base identified and secured an object on the resort beach. Servicemen determined this item to be the booster stage of an air defence missile. Following this, on Wednesday, a separate team was deployed to survey an area situated approximately 150 to 200 meters offshore, northeast of Nessebar.

This deployment followed information provided by the Regional Directorate of the Border Police regarding a drone spotted at sea. Military personnel initiated the survey operations at night, continuing the following morning with support from a Bulgarian Navy boat. The crew successfully located and identified the drone, noting that it was missing its nose section and contained no explosive components.

Like the missile debris, the drone was deemed non-hazardous and brought back to the Burgas Naval Base. These operations were executed by Navy personnel at the request of the Burgas Regional Administration, acting under directives issued by the Chief of Defence and the Navy Commander. The coordinated effort ensured the safe recovery and assessment of sensitive materials from the coastal area.
