Personnel from the Burgas Naval Base conducted operations concerning recovered materials at local resorts and along the coastline this week. On April 22, a specialized team was dispatched to a section of the Sunny Beach resort beach to investigate an object found on the sand. Military servicemen identified the item as the booster stage of an air defense missile.
Officials reported that the component posed no threat and was subsequently transported to the naval base for assessment. Later, the base deployed personnel to survey an area northeast of Nessebar, approximately 150–200 meters from the shoreline. This operation followed intelligence received by the Regional Directorate of the Border Police regarding an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) spotted at sea.
The military team began initial surveys at night, continuing the following morning with assistance from a Bulgarian Navy boat. The crew successfully located and identified the drone, which was noted to be missing its nose section and lacked any explosive components. Like the missile debris, the military personnel determined that the recovered drone posed no danger and transported it back to the Burgas Naval Base.
These actions were executed at the request of the Burgas Regional Administration, following orders from the Chief of Defence and a directive from the Navy Commander. The recovery and inspection of these items underscore the ongoing efforts of the naval base to maintain regional security and assess potential threats to the area’s defense infrastructure.
