Bostandjiev Becomes New PFC Levski Sofia Owner

Bulgarian businessman Atanas Bostandjiev has acquired majority ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, according to an announcement made on Friday by the club’s outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov. While Bostandjiev takes over ownership, Sirakov will retain his role as club president. Sirakov stated his decision to step down from shareholding after successfully stabilizing the club during a challenging period, emphasizing that continuity in leadership is vital for Levski’s future.

Bostandjiev expressed his commitment to maintaining the club’s identity and independence while aiming for sustained success both athletically and operationally. He welcomed Sirakov’s continued role as president. A key component of Levski’s future strategy involves the development of a new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium.

The club and the architectural firm IPA have unveiled the concept, projecting a total investment of EUR 120 million. The stadium is designed to accommodate 24,718 seats under Bulgarian Football Union guidelines and 23,032 seats under UEFA standards. Construction is scheduled to commence in spring 2027.

Furthermore, the facility is planned as a multifunctional complex, capable of hosting major events, including concerts for up to 40,000 people, alongside enhanced public park areas. Atanas Bostandjiev is the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, established in 2014, which specializes in emerging markets. His professional background includes serving as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and as a partner at Goldman Sachs in London, where he co-headed the emerging markets business across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
