Atanas Bostandjiev has assumed ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, taking over from the outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov, who announced the change on Friday. While Bostandjiev is taking the controlling stake, Sirakov will retain the role of club president. Sirakov stated that his decision to step down from shareholding followed a period of stabilizing the club, which he emphasized was crucial for preserving its identity and ensuring continuity in leadership for Levski’s future.
Bostandjiev expressed his commitment to preserving the club’s identity and independence while aiming for sustainable success both on the pitch and in club operations. Regarding the club’s future development, a central element is the planned new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium. Levski and the architectural and engineering firm IPA have unveiled the concept, projecting a total investment of EUR 120 million.
The stadium is designed to meet BFU requirements with a capacity of 24,718, and UEFA standards with 23,032 seats. Construction is scheduled to commence in Spring 2027. The complex is envisioned as a multifunctional venue capable of hosting large-scale events, including concerts for up to 40,000 people, alongside public park areas.
Professionally, Bostandjiev is the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, established in 2014, focusing on emerging markets. His prior experience includes serving as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and a partner at Goldman Sachs in London, where he co-headed the emerging markets business across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Bostandjiev began his career at Merrill Lynch in Frankfurt in 1998.
