, Bulgaria, Amplifies Idea for Joint Political Project Among Reformist Parties

Days after the Yes, Bulgaria party suggested a coalition agreement with Continue the Change (CC) and Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), political discussions regarding the future governing structure in Bulgaria have intensified. Co-leader Bozhidar Bozhanov indicated that dialogue with CC remains possible, emphasizing that the focus should remain on the voters. Specifically, Bozhanov noted that judicial reform is an area where the parties share common ground.

Informally, the three political parties have been collaborating since February 2023, and the current development centers on formalizing this arrangement through a signed coalition agreement. A potential long-term goal discussed is the merger of these collaborating entities into a single unified party. In a separate statement, Ivaylo Mirchev, another co-leader of Yes, Bulgaria, addressed the possibility of unification with DSB and CC.

Mirchev stated that such a merger is contingent upon the mutual agreement of all involved parties. He suggested that while the informal collaboration has been productive, the electorate expects a more consolidated political project. A key element he highlighted was the necessity of establishing a common presidential candidate.

These discussions underscore a concerted effort among various political groups in Bulgaria to present a unified front. Mirchev also offered an assessment of the current caretaker Prime Minister, Andrey Gurov, describing him as potentially one of the most successful caretakers in the country’s recent history. The ongoing dialogue suggests a tangible, albeit evolving, idea for a unified political platform among these key parties.
