Speaking at the opening session of the 52nd National Assembly, Petar Vitanov, a Member of Parliament representing Progressive Bulgaria, addressed the legislative body on Thursday. Following the ceremony, where Rumen Milanov, the most senior MP present from Progressive Bulgaria, administered the oath to the 240 lawmakers, Vitanov issued a statement regarding the immediate responsibilities facing the nation. Vitanov cautioned his colleagues that the celebratory atmosphere surrounding the election was temporary.
He noted that in the span of just a few days, the political focus would shift entirely to the practical duties of governance. He stated that the parliamentary group would immediately confront the existing administrative structures of the state. Key legislative priorities for Progressive Bulgaria, according to Vitanov, include the urgent passage of the national budget and resolving outstanding issues related to the treasury.
Furthermore, he highlighted the necessity of curbing rampant speculation within the political landscape. Beyond immediate fiscal matters, the MP identified several structural reforms as major objectives. These include the election of a new Supreme Judicial Council and the appointment of a new prosecutor general.
Vitanov emphasized that achieving these goals requires a qualified majority. He concluded by asserting that while Progressive Bulgaria is instrumental in advancing these critical tasks for Bulgaria, success will ultimately depend on securing the support of other political parties.
