Bulgaria’s Vitanov: In Few Days, We Will Be Called Upon to Take on Responsibility of Governing

Speaking from the Parliament rostrum on behalf of Progressive Bulgaria, MP Petar Vitanov cautioned his colleagues regarding the immediate responsibilities awaiting the parliamentary group. Vitanov stated that the initial period of political excitement would soon conclude, noting, “The ten-day euphoria is over.” He emphasized that within a matter of few days, the party would be tasked with the responsibility of governance, confronting what he termed a “captured state.”

Earlier that day, the session commenced with Rumen Milanov, the senior MP present from Progressive Bulgaria, who administered the oath to the 240 lawmakers during the inaugural sitting of the 52nd National Assembly. Vitanov outlined several critical legislative hurdles for the government.

Foremost among these are the necessity of passing the national budget and resolving outstanding issues concerning the state treasury. Additionally, he highlighted the need to curb speculation within the political sphere. Furthermore, Vitanov identified the selection of a new Supreme Judicial Council and the appointment of a new prosecutor general as major priorities for Progressive Bulgaria.

He stressed that achieving this strategic goal requires a qualified majority. While he asserted that Progressive Bulgaria is essential to this process, he also acknowledged that the support of other parties within Bulgaria would be necessary to move forward.
