The Camping & Caravaning Expo 2026 commenced Friday and will continue through Sunday at the former Sofia Land park area. Organized by Camping.BG, this forum marks the 12th annual iteration of the event, which began in 2018. This year, the expo features 99 exhibitors representing Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Germany, and is anticipated to draw over 12,000 visitors.
The exhibition showcases the latest advancements in campers, caravans, and recreational vehicles, alongside products for camping, water sports, cycling, and outdoor activities. According to Camping.BG founder Veselin Valev, interest in camping tourism in Bulgaria is increasing. Valev noted the wide price variation in the sector, stating that equipment can range from about EUR 100 to EUR 100,000.
He differentiated between campers, suitable for varied travel, and caravans, which are better for extended stays. The organizers advised beginners to start at regulated campgrounds, citing the amenities available compared to wild camping. Bulgaria currently has over 200 campsites, with the inland facilities often boasting higher service levels, including modern thermal campgrounds.
The expo provides practical advice for attendees, covering topics such as converting vans into campervans and managing vehicle weight limits, which must not exceed 3.5 tonnes. While the industry is growing, Valev pointed out that improving infrastructure, particularly roads leading to attractions, remains a key challenge for the sector’s development. The event also emphasizes sustainable travel, with dedicated sessions on responsible camping.
