Centre at Azalia Hotel in Sts Constantine and Helena Resort Attracts Growing Interest from Dutch, Polish Guests

According to spa manager Nikolay Popov, the spa centre at the Azalia Hotel in the Sts Constantine and Helena resort is seeing an increase in guests from the Netherlands and Poland. Popov attributes this popularity to the centre’s utilization of natural healing resources, including mineral water combined with seawater, lye, and healing mud. He also noted that guests frequently praise the extensive experience of the on-site specialists.

Balneological therapies are particularly favored by individuals over 60, who commonly seek treatment for musculoskeletal issues, neurodegenerative diseases, herniated discs, and lower back pain—conditions affecting nearly three-quarters of older adults. Complementing this, Lyubomir Stamboliyski, Commercial Director at Sts Constantine & Helena Holding AD, pointed to a post-pandemic trend showing younger demographics prioritizing health. He anticipates this focus will fuel growth in wellness tourism.

Stamboliyski added that the average age seeking rehabilitation services is decreasing, moving from 40–45 to approximately 28–31. The company’s service packages are evolving from fixed treatments to individualized protocols, similar to medical practices. These programs extend beyond thermal water or mud treatments to include guidance on diet, physical activity, and specialized supplements.

To develop these protocols, the centre partners with national physicians, allowing for remote online consultations. The resort attracts visitors from Germany and the Czech Republic, alongside growing interest in medical and spa tourism across the Balkans. BTA is highlighting this growth through its “BG SPA: Salus per aquam” feature, which covers over 200 certified spa and wellness centres.

This initiative is connected to the HEALTHXCHANGE SUMMIT in 2026, underscoring the increasing global interest in Bulgarian health tourism.
