CEO Vijay Joshi: India Can Take Inspiration From How BTA Popularizes Bulgarian Culture

Vijay Joshi, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of India’s national news agency Press Trust of India (PTI), observed that the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) provides a model for utilizing local community partnerships to preserve and promote Bulgarian culture. Joshi made these remarks while attending the launch of BTA’s initiative, “Pencho Slaveykov Today,” held at the Slaveykov House Museum in Tryavna. The initiative commemorates the 160th birth anniversary of the poet Pencho Slaveykov, a significant figure in modern Bulgarian literature.

Joshi expressed optimism that the existing partnership between the national news agencies of India and Bulgaria could help increase awareness of Slaveykov within India. He praised the event, which was moderated by literary scholar Yordan Eftimov, calling such cultural preservation efforts valuable. This marked Joshi’s second visit to Bulgaria, where he found Tryavna to be a charming old town.

Following the museum meeting, Joshi, alongside BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Tryavna Mayor Dencho Minev, visited the Daskalov House and the Museum of Asian and African Art. The cooperation between PTI and BTA is formalized through a partnership agreement facilitating news exchange. Furthermore, the agencies collaborate within MINDS International, an association comprising 25 global news agencies, focusing on information services.

The visit followed Joshi and Valchev’s participation in the MINDS conference in Vienna from April 22 to 24. Before traveling to Sofia, Joshi also visited BTA’s national press clubs in Belgrade and Skopje, solidifying the mutual exchange of news and cultural understanding between the two nations.
