Vijay Joshi, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of India’s national news agency Press Trust of India (PTI), observed that India could draw inspiration from the methods used by the BTA to engage local communities in preserving and promoting Bulgarian culture. Joshi made these remarks during his visit to the Slaveykov House Museum in Tryavna, coinciding with the launch of BTA’s initiative, “Pencho Slaveykov Today.” This initiative commemorates the 160th anniversary of the Tryavna-born poet, a significant figure in Bulgarian modernism. Joshi expressed his hope that the collaboration between the two nations’ national news agencies would increase awareness of Slaveykov within India.
He noted that such cultural events provide a valuable mechanism for heritage preservation. During the event, moderated by Yordan Eftimov, Joshi reflected on the significance of hearing the history of Slaveykov and his influence on Bulgarian literature. Following the museum meeting, Joshi, along with BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Tryavna Mayor Dencho Minev, toured the Daskalov House and the Museum of Asian and African Art.
The professional relationship between PTI and BTA is formalized through an agreement facilitating news exchange. Furthermore, the agencies collaborate within MINDS International, an association comprising 25 global news agencies, focusing on joint information services. Joshi’s trip followed his participation in the MINDS conference in Vienna, and prior to heading to Sofia, he visited BTA’s national press clubs in Belgrade and Skopje.
