Vijay Joshi, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of India’s national news agency Press Trust of India (PTI), visited Tryavna, Bulgaria, to observe the launch of the Bulgarian News Agency’s (BTA) initiative, “Pencho Slaveykov Today.” This effort commemorates the 160th birth anniversary of the poet, a significant figure in Bulgarian modernism. During the event, Joshi suggested that India could draw inspiration from BTA’s model of partnering with local communities to preserve and promote national culture. He expressed hope that, through the collaboration between the national news agencies of the two nations, the works of Pencho Slaveykov will also gain recognition in India.
Joshi noted that such initiatives serve as effective methods for cultural preservation. The visit marked Joshi’s second trip to Bulgaria. Following the discussion at the Slaveykov House Museum, he accompanied BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and Tryavna Mayor Dencho Minev to visit the Daskalov House and the Museum of Asian and African Art.
The professional relationship between PTI and BTA is formalized through an agreement facilitating news exchange. Furthermore, the agencies collaborate within MINDS International, an association of 25 global news agencies, including Reuters and Associated Press, focused on information service cooperation. Joshi’s visit followed participation in the MINDS conference in Vienna, during which BTA and PTI representatives were active.
The exchange underscores a mutual commitment to journalistic partnership between India and Bulgaria.
