Three-day commemorations marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising commenced on Thursday at the Memorial House Theatre in Panagyurishte with the “150 Greetings from Around the World” initiative. This event featured video messages contributed by children and youth from various parts of the globe. Following the video presentations, a theatrical performance was staged, adapted from Stefan Tsanev’s “Children of the World.”
During his address, Panagyurishte Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov acknowledged the attendees for their commitment to preserving historical memory.
He stated that their presence demonstrated a connection to something larger than themselves: Bulgaria. Notable figures present included BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) Director General Milen Mitev, Prof. Georgi Valchev, Rector of the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, and journalist and Panorama talk-show presenter Boyko Vassilev.
Earlier in the day, participants attended a conference concerning the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising, which was organized by BTA and hosted by the Panagyurishte History Museum. The celebrations in Panagyurishte are scheduled to continue with a 150 Flamesshow at the 20 April Square. The events highlight the connection between the local community and the broader world in commemorating this significant historical milestone.
