Three-day commemorations marking the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising commenced on Thursday in Panagyurishte. The initial events featured the “150 Greetings from Around the World” initiative, where children and youth from various global locations contributed video messages. This was followed by a staged theatrical performance based on Stefan Tsanev’s work, Children of the World.
During the proceedings, Panagyurishte Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov addressed attendees, expressing gratitude for the commitment to preserving historical memory. Gagov stated that the participation demonstrated a collective connection to something larger than the individual, affirming a shared sense of Bulgarian identity. The event drew notable figures, including BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Bulgarian National Radio Director General Milen Mitev, Professor Georgi Valchev, Rector of the St Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, and journalist Boyko Vassilev.
Earlier that day, attendees participated in a dedicated conference on the 150th anniversary, which was organized by BTA and hosted by the Panagyurishte History Museum. The commemorative activities are scheduled to continue, with the celebration concluding at the 20 April Square in Panagyurishte with a 150 Flamesshow. The events underscore a sustained focus on remembering the historical significance of the April Uprising across the world.
