–DB MP Iordanova: We Respect People’s Vote, Will Take Rightful Place as Opposition, But Not Mere Bystanders

Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) MP Nadejda Iordanova addressed the inaugural session of the 52nd National Assembly, stating that while her group respects the electorate’s decision and accepts an opposition role, they will not remain uninvolved. Iordanova noted that the country is at a point where Bulgarian society seeks an end to prolonged political instability. She asserted that the public demands tangible evidence that politics can serve its citizens rather than itself.

Regarding the new majority government, Iordanova acknowledged that the mandate given to Progressive Bulgaria carries a significant responsibility. She emphasized that the protests calling for systemic change specifically targeted the previous governance model. Consequently, Iordanova declared that the opposition will consistently defend the rule of law.

She stated that the public has demanded an end to a state perceived as being under siege, characterized by impunity and institutions favoring powerful interests over citizens. Iordanova outlined specific areas of support, affirming that the opposition will back any measures strengthening the rule of law, modernizing the state, and maintaining Bulgaria’s commitment to Europe. Conversely, she vowed to oppose any policy that substitutes anti-corruption efforts with new dependencies.

For Iordanova, the primary focus must be on justice and combating corruption through daily parliamentary action. She committed to introducing amendments to the Judiciary Act and working to establish a Supreme Judicial Council through processes ensuring professional integrity and independence. Furthermore, she called for an audit of high-level judicial assets, reviewing the grounds for protective custody of top officials, ensuring transparency in public spending, and resolving the issue of road construction disputes.

Iordanova concluded by stressing that Bulgaria’s role belongs within a strong European Union, advocating for a state that prioritizes its people through functional public systems and accessible healthcare.
