Dead, Five Injured in Odesa Region Overnight Russian Attack, Regional Governor Says

According to Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, Russian drone strikes targeted port infrastructure in the Odesa Region, resulting in casualties and damage on Sunday. Kiper reported that the attacks continued to impact civilian and port facilities in the area. He stated that two individuals were killed and five others were injured, offering condolences to the victims’ families.

The incident reportedly involved Russian drones striking three residential buildings, with two additional structures also sustaining damage. Furthermore, port infrastructure and related equipment were damaged during the assault. Emergency services responded to the scene, extinguishing fires and working to clear the aftermath of the attacks across the region.

Separately, the article noted the demographic makeup of the area. According to the official 2001 census, Bulgarians constitute a significant population segment in the Odesa Region, numbering over 150,000, making them the third largest ethnic group in Ukraine at that time. Within the city of Odesa alone, the Bulgarian population is estimated to be between 50,000 and 60,000.

The largest concentrations of the Bulgarian community are reported in the Bolhrad, Izmail, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
