Director General: By Organizing Talks about April Uprising, BTA Took Step towards People

Speaking at a conference concerning the April Uprising, BNR Director General Milen Mitev stated that BTA’s organization of discussions on the event represented a crucial effort to connect media with the public. He emphasized that in the current media landscape, taking the initiative to engage the audience is vital for media relevance. The conference marked the final event in a series organized by BTA commemorating the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising.

Mitev noted that understanding one’s current standing requires placing it within a broader historical context, necessitating an examination of both domestic and international histories. The Director further stressed the critical role of the media in this process due to its influence on public opinion. According to Mitev, the participants of the April Uprising exemplified profound faith in their cause and a willingness to make sacrifices—elements he described as foundational to many historical narratives.

Mitev highlighted the enduring significance of the April Uprising as a pivotal Bulgarian event, viewing it as a key component in the trajectory toward establishing a free and independent Bulgarian state. While advocating for the cultivation of national pride, he cautioned that this sentiment is often subject to manipulation. Therefore, he asserted that the responsibility falls to the media and scholars to build national self-esteem.

This, he clarified, means taking pride in Bulgaria’s history and achievements while actively working toward continuous improvement.
